TdF Pyrenees

Tour de France – Pyrenees Trip 8 – 14 July 2017

This trip will give you the unique chance to ride the same legendary cols as the pros ride in the 2017 TdF. You will get to see the Tour up close on beautiful and iconic roads including the legendary Col d’Aubisque and the stage finish on the Peyragudes climb. We will have time to relax before the Tour arrives and the roads close to enjoy the action on what will prove to be decisive stages.

Saturday July 8th

We will meet you on arrival at Toulouse airport and take you to our 3* hotel ‘La Grange Aux Marmottes’ in the village of Viscos. You can use the time today to unpack your bike from its box and have a leisurely ride. During this evening’s dinner we will take the opportunity to go through the programme of the days to come. This is also a good opportunity to get to know your fellow group members.

Sunday July 9th

A ride round the Col du Tourmalet. This will give you a great introduction to some of the best Pyrenees climbs right on our doorstep.
Total distance: 100km Total Climbing: 2600.

Monday July 10th

Starting to climb from our hotel towards the village of Gedre, then on to Gavarnie village we will continue to climb up the Port du Boucharo (2230m) to reach the Spanish border. We then drop back down the road and up the Cirque de Troumouse, taking in spectacular views of our surroundings at nearly 2000m and stop for coffee at Auberge du Maillet.
Total distance: 90km Total climbing: 3500m.

Tuesday July 11th

We set off down the valley to take on an absolute gem of a climb. The Hautacam is sometimes described as the Alpe d’Huez of the Pyrenees but has only been used four times in the TdF. We then head east to warm the muscles, climbing Col des Bordères and Col du Soulor on the way to the days real classic – the Col d’Aubisque in the heart of the Midi Pyrénées. It’s a legend of the Pyrénées with a rich heritage. It has appeared in the Tour de France every two years since 1910.
Total distance: 130km Total climbing: 4800m.

Wednesday July 12th– Tdf Stage 11: Eymet / Pau

Today we will ride to Pau to see the pros finish. However, we will not just be standing on the sidelines, as we are riding out over the Col du Soulor and tackling the small roads into Pau. On our return we take the leisurely route through Lourdes.
Total distance: 150km Total climbing: 2900m.

Thursday July 13th – Tdf Stage 12: Pau / Peyragudes

Our location in Viscos is excellent for accessing the stage, as we are only 80km from Peyragudes. You will start the ride from the hotel and climb to the Col d’Aspin and on to Col de Peyresourde on the way to the summit of the Peyragudes climb before the roads close ahead of the arrival of the race. After watching the TdF stage  finish we make our way back down the valley to Lac de Payolle where we will meet the tour bus to return to the hotel for a beautiful celebratory dinner to round of the trip.
Total distance: 120km Total climbing: 5132m.
